What to do if you need help...
Talk with your on-site teacher: Your on-site teacher is your first and primary point of contact.
ASMSA facilitators: The ASMSA instructors will be available via email to help with questions.
Helping Peers: It is ok for you to help and seek help from your other classmates, per the rules set down by your on-site teacher. (There will be exceptions of course. Certainly exams and quizzes are individual efforts.) If you are unsure how to do something, need help understanding the directions of an assignment or just need to brainstorm how to get started on your code, ask your classmates. One of them may have already figured out the thing that is a sticking point. See if they can help. Also, if a classmate needs help, and you know the answer, help them find the solution (without giving them the answer).
Rewatch the Instructional Videos: Many of the Assignment or Content pages within the class module may have a video for you to watch. Remember you can (and should) pause them at times. Sometimes the video is showing you something, something that you are needing to do on your computer. So watch the video, pause and rewind as often as necessary.
Advice about coursework...
Stay on Task!: Some of you will be tempted to surf the internet, or use this class time as a study hall to do homework for your other classes. You cannot put your Computer Science studies on the back burner! Coding usually presents unforeseen delays and challenges. Give yourself plenty of time to work through the problems.
Working on the courses work outside of class...
Course Content: This course is available for you to access outside of the classroom.
Installing Software on your personal computer: For this course, your teacher will choose an IDE for your classroom. Additionally, you may choose to code using an online IDE like the one provided through Replit or CodeHS. There are also free IDEs you may download.
For Processing, visit processing.org and download the Processing software
For Java, one of our favorite IDEs is Eclipse. You will need to download the Java JDK and the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers (Install the JDK first.)
Another very helpful Java IDE is Geany
Good Luck! You got this. 😊
