History of Computer Science
Computer Science traces its origin back to the abacus (more than 4000 years ago) and the introduction of binary numbers (over 300 years ago), and the first digital computer was envisioned by Charles Babbage (1791 - 1871) around 1850. While Babbage's Difference Engine, which allowed for the automation of error free, repeatable polynomial manipulation, was not successfully built until 2002, his Analytical Engine was the first mechanical computer. Ada Lovelace (1815 - 1852), Babbage's protégé, analyzed Babbage's theoretical computers and realized that they could be used for much more than simple calculations. She created algorithms containing letters and symbols and made use of looping techniques to expand upon Babbage's initial theories regarding his engine. As a result, while Babbage is known as the father of the modern computer, Lovelace is remembered as the first computer programmer............
