Computer Science is largely about collecting, manipulating and evaluating data.
Data is simply "facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis". It can be divided into two categories: qualitative or quantitative. These words are hard to spell, hard to pronounce, and remarkably similar. Quantitative data is very objective and describes numeric data, while qualitative data is more subjective and deals with less concrete figures.
Look at the following picture below...
The answer to the question, "How many apples are in the box?", is quantitative.
The answer is numeric and can easily be determined right or wrong.
The answer to the question, "What color are the apples?" is a little tricker. Most people will say green, but others will say apple green, chartreuse, light green, lime, etc.
This answer is more descriptive and open to interpretation, so it is qualitative.
To further confuse the point, we have collected a library of infographics from a variety of sources which each describe the differences between qualitative and quantitative data in a slightly different way.
Review each infographic and form a concept in your own mind of the differences between qualitative and quantitative data.
